eCertification Course
Faculty teaching fully online courses at Lock Haven University must first sucessfully complete the eCertification course offered by eCollege. The eCertification course is an instructor-led online course that takes 6 weeks to complete. eCertification was designed for both faculty and administrators. Key points of the course include:
- Building an online course using the eCollege system
- Developing content for the online environment
- Incorporating interactivity within the online course
- Assessing students
- Managing an online course
- Strategies for teaching online
A highlight of the eCertification course is that each participant develops an online portfolio which is then reviewed by the eCollege instructional design team. NOTE: Course participation and the exam must be completed within the timeframe of the course. It is recommended that the portfolio requirement be completed within 3 months from the start of the course. Participants not completing their portfolio requirement within 12 months from the course start date will need to enroll in a new course and start over. The LHU Distance Education office pays for the first eCertification course. The participant's department must agree to pay for any subsequent courses necessary due to not meeting course requirements.
